BOEM will hold GOM Lease Sale 261 on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. The public can view the virtual bid opening on BOEM's website.
The Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Lease Sale 261 will offer approximately 12,395 blocks on approximately 67 million acres on the U.S. OCS in the Western, Central, and Eastern Planning Areas. In the previously released Proposed Notice of Sale, BOEM had proposed offering 13,620 blocks on 73.4 million acres, but this was reduced as certain portions of the GOM have now been excluded, including those blocks located within the "Expanded Rice's Whale Area" as discussed in NTL 2023-G01-BOEM. The IRA mandated that BOEM hold Lease Sale 261 no later than September 30, 2023.
BOEM published its Proposed Notice of Sale (NOS) on March 15, 2023 and has now announced a Final NOS. The Proposed and Final NOS for Lease Sale 261 are available from BOEM's dedicated website for the sale: https://www.boem.gov/oil-gas-energy/leasing/lease-sale-261. | |
