The COS Annual Performance Report (APR) for the 2022 Reporting Year provides an accounting of safety-related incidents and events at facilities operating on the OCS.
COS Members voluntarily submit data for the APR to support COS' mission to provide the highest level of safety for the U.S. offshore natural gas and oil industry. In 2022, COS members saw an increase in offshore work hours – up 8.8MIL over 2021 – representing 76% of all OCS activity. This increase in the number of hours worked was not at the expense of safety. In fact, COS members had fewer serious incidents in 2022 vs 2021.
This COS APR also includes an analysis of 47 SEMS audit reports submitted to BSEE from 2020-2022. The analysis includes a review of the 449 deficiencies (Non-Conformances and Areas of Concern) cited in the audit reports, breaking them down by SEMS maturity phases.
Through the analysis of data presented in the APR, COS strives to identify areas for improvement in the management of risk through safety management systems for the operation of offshore wells, projects, and production facilities on the U.S. OCS.
